The black Marvel movie is refreshing, if perhaps only on the surface

Valentine's Dreams: If You Can't Be with the One You Love … Love the Black Panther Cast

In many key markets, "Black Panther" is outpacing previous comic-book movie hits such as "Doctor Strange", "Wonder Woman", and "Guardians of the Galaxy", all of which augurs for a healthy opening weekend and much to celebrate in the halls of Marvel.

Asked whether the 31-year-old director will come back for Black Panther 2, Feige told Variety, "I hope so". That stuff happened in Civil War and, while some may have seen that as short-shrifting the hero at the time, it really opens things up for the feature film. Granted, Wakanda has about the same problems as Heimdall what with its complicated mythology and plethora of rare metal, but it's more propulsive and less hamster-wheel-oriented than some of these other Marvel movies.

Domestically, "Black Panther" will launch in previews on Thursday night before debuting across 4,020 locations.

"Black Panther" continues rolling out around the world this weekend and will be in close to 70% of the worldwide marketplace by Sunday.

Director Ryan Coogler has earned near-universal acclaim for his work on Black Panther, and if Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has his way, the filmmaker will return for a potential sequel.

"You got to be careful of being racist against yourself".

Isn't it great when a superhero movie surprises you for the better, by exercising some welcome restraint? "It's a diverse story, it is long overdue, and there's this social media movement that's happening that I think is galvanizing ticket sales like we never have seen before", Witherspoon added. The fundamental problem is that I first saw superhero movies as an offshoot of an existing genre, as a form of sci-fi or action film with superheroes at the centre.
