Sushil Choudhury, the authority, said police were searching for Rajendra Yadav, who fled Bangarmau, a residential area in Uttar Pradesh state, after the HIV contaminations were distinguished in December a year ago.

Villagers in the area said they rarely saw the fake doctor change his needles, which is likely what prompted the spread of HIV. The lack of proper care has prompted many to seek out fake doctors for cheap treatment.

India had a total of 2.1mn people living with HIV at the end of 2016, with new infections that year totalling 80,000. Of those, 9,100 were youngsters under age 15.

Authorities suspect Yadav to be the main culprit behind the infections because most of the HIV positive patients were found to have received injections from him.

The villagers of Unnao, in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh, are reportedly having sleepless nights after a compulsory screening drive launched by the local administration have found a lot of them infected with HIV.

Yadav would visit villages on his bicycle and treat patients outdoors.

The incident came to light when a government-run health camp was held in the town in November, finding a high number of HIV cases.

Dr Choudhary continued: "We have lodged a police case against the quack and have started a crackdown on illegal practitioners who are playing with the lives of people".

An unlicensed doctor used a single syringe on his patients in Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh, local media reports.

"Villagers are ignorant about hygiene", he explained.

HIV - or the human immunodeficiency virus - is transmitted through blood transfusion, use of infected needles and syringes, unprotected sex, or from mother to child.

A committee comprising additional CMO Tanmay Kakkar and deputy CMO JR Singh was formed to investigate the incidence of HIV patients in the three pockets. After some time, a HIV disease can form into AIDS, a dynamic disappointment of the immune system that leaves the body open to hazardous contaminations and growths.
