Azerbaijan marks International Women's Day

This year's International Women's Day celebration would fall on Thursday, March 8, on the theme: "Time is Now: Rural and urban activists transforming women's lives".

Commenting on the significance of IWD, Nicola Dibb, executive director and founder of Women in Social Housing (WISH) said: "Campaigns such as International Women's Day are hugely important for highlighting gender disparity and the very real struggles that many women face in the workplace".

Take a Selfie visually showing your #PressForProgress Pose to create thunderclap to get IWD and #PressForProgress trending, and the social conversation started.

Of course, the commemoration of International Women's Day is also used as an advocacy platform - to advocate for change in issues, situations, systems and structures that hinder women's advancement in our society. Last year's theme, #BeBoldforchange was adopted by the USA Women's Hockey Team to rally for equal pay.

The symposium is being organised in partnership with Sustainable Stock Exchanges Initiative, United Nations Women, United Nations Global Compact, International Finance Corporation, the World Federation of Exchanges, Women in ETFs, and Women in Management, Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ).

This year's themes are essential for the observance and celebration of all Liberians which can be achieved with the collective participation of women and men, boys and girls, as well as other marginalized groups.

"It is unacceptable for women to face abuse, violence and injustice just due to their gender". The women in Russian Federation observed the day on the last Sunday of February.

To mark women's advancement, Reclaim the Agenda has compiled, with funding from the Heritage Lottery fund, a website and booklet called A Century of Women, focussing on women from each decade from 1900 to 2000.
