The state has also set aside a $10 million dollar buffer for "unexpected expenses", putting the amount almost equal to the $100 million set aside by the EPA following former President Obama's legislation in December. The settlement will be reviewed by a federal judge in Detroit on Tuesday for final approval. Bonn-based Haribo , which invented the gummy bear almost a century ago, said Friday it would open a usa factory in Wisconsin in 2020. Haribo estimates that construction on the new plant won't be complete until 2020. According to the company, the factory would bring about 400 jobs to the area . The project marks one of the largest investments from a foreign company in the state's history, the governor's office said. (more...)

Because the Newport-Inglewood/Rose Canyon fault is never more than four miles from the coast, significant shaking from an natural disaster could have great impacts to the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego. The fault is broken into four main strands separated by three so-called stepovers, or horizontal breaks that are less than 2 kilometers wide. If the entire fault were to rupture, the researchers estimate the maximum potential could be between a magnitude 6.7 and magnitude 7.3 to 7.4. (more...)
