Teams from MSF, also known as Doctors Without Borders, said in a statement that they've counted 52 dead and 120 wounded as a result of the strike on the camp in Rann. Some analysts questioned how a warplane could be conducting air strikes if the military is merely in a "mopping up" operation. Rescue workers continued to pull survivors from the wreckage of an Italian hotel more than three days after it was buried in a massive avalanche. Beside the 10 people located on Friday, there had been two more survivors on the previous day - two men, who were outside the hotel when the avalanche hit and were able to launch the first SOS call. Unconfirmed reports suggested around five firemen might be alive, trapped in the debris. Ten firehouses responded to the incident, a fire department spokesman told Iranian state TV. It is not clear whether any other individuals have been left trapped beneath the rubble of the building. Hotel Rigopiano is a small ski hotel located on the eastern side of the lower slopes of the Gran Sasso mountain. The Italy avalanche buried the Hotel Rigopiano in snow leaving up to 30 people dead. "We have got up to two meters of snow and now another quake". The first mountain rescue teams, arriving on skis, didn't reach the hotel until 4:00am local time-several hours after the avalanche had struck. (more...)
