Profit, excluding items that are one-time during the first quarter reached 67 cents per share, missing Wall Street's estimates of 68 cents. Per-share earnings will be $3.70, down from a previous forecast of $4. Under the new accounting principle, the company will recognize actuarial gains and losses as a mark-to-market gain or loss when they occur rather than amortizing them to earnings over time. (more...)

Unemployment in Colorado decreased by one-tenth of a percentage point from February's level, the CDLE said, based on a survey of Colorado households. That compares to a rate of 5.4 percent in March 2015. The biggest decrease occurred in professional and business services, down 4,300 jobs to 717,800. Last month, manufacturing output fell 0.3 per cent, the biggest decline since February 2015, after slipping 0.1 per cent in February. From a year earlier, industrial production decreased 2% in March. Capacity utilization for the industrial sector fell to 74.8% in March, lower than the prior month revised reading of 75.3% (from 76.7%). US factory output dropped in March for the second straight month as manufacturers churned out fewer cars, metal parts and machinery. (more...)

The report also showed export prices were unchanged in March after declining 0.5 percent in February. Consumer prices rose a 0.1 percent in March as a drop in grocery prices offset higher energy costs. Export prices were down 6.1 per cent from a year ago. The drop surprised economists, who had expected prices to climb by 0.3 percent. Over the past year overall producer prices have fallen 0.1% in unadjusted terms. (more...)

Canada also receives almost all USA crude oil exports, 422,000 BPD, or 92%, of the 458,000 BPD of crude oil exported from the US last year, EIA found. "The low price of the primary input, which is crude oil, is translating into a lower gasoline price".
